Upon entry, the bar is the first room you encounter before reaching the restaurant. A magnificent crystal chandelier, centrally placed, serves as the pièce de résistance of this elegantly decorated space. The room is expansive, with high ceilings that exude an air of ceremony and grandeur. Enormous chandeliers and even larger windows flood the main dining area with light, while the wood-panelled walls and sophisticated furniture make the venue's refined elegance unmistakable.
The cuisine is as splendid as the setting. We recommend starting with the delectably smoky grilled tiger prawns accompanied by beetroot and carrot slaw. For a tantalising opening act, the Roasted Half Lobster with herby crayfish salad and thermidor mash is an excellent choice before delving into the main courses.
The meat selection at Gillray’s is extensive, offering dry-aged options both bone-in and bone-out for every steak aficionado. Rump Cap, Sirloin, Cote de Boeuf, and T-bone all vie for your attention, and if none of those tempt you, there’s always the mighty Longhorn—a succulent slab of 42-day aged Ribeye weighing a staggering 1kg. The steaks are cooked to order and drizzled with a generous selection of toppings: Green Peppercorn and Brandy, Veal & Malbec Jus, Bacon Jam, and Béarnaise. Aside from the exceptional steaks, there is also Pan-Fried Hake for fish lovers or the Delica Squash Wellington for those seeking a vegetarian option.
The sides are legendary: the cheese-laden Mac n’ Three Cheese Chips is a must-try, and the triple-cooked chunky chips are perfect for soaking up the juices. The wine list is equally impressive, with an excellent selection of 120 varieties. Opt for the aromatic Bodegas Cairo Argentinian Malbec to complement your steak. Conclude your dinner date by sharing the sticky toffee pudding with clotted cream ice cream, or for a more memorable ending, the upside-down apple tart.
