Inside: Vintry & Mercer.
Situated in the bustling heart of the City, just a brief stroll from Cannon Street station and mere steps from the River Thames on a cobbled street, Vintry & Mercer is a delightful luxury hotel that seamlessly blends modernity with a nostalgic charm.
Its name derives from its location between two historic guild halls, one representing the wine trade and the other catering to textile merchants, with its aesthetic drawing inspiration from an era when business travel was akin to an adventure.
Style
A prime destination for the contemporary traveller, Vintry & Mercer features a design that marries current trends with historical elements. Think guild coats of arms, rich fabrics, and modern fixtures adorned with tasteful nods to the city’s rich heritage.
Rooms
It is astonishing that this compact hotel boasts 92 generously sized rooms. Luxury is at the core of this establishment, radiating through the plush fabrics, vintage maps, and vibrant colours that create a well-balanced fusion of opulent decoration and modern simplicity. The suites are both contemporary and elegant. The Corner Studio Suites offer panoramic views of the City through floor-to-ceiling windows, and if fortune smiles upon you, you might secure one with an external terrace spanning the width of the room. Guests can unwind on the king-sized beds, lounge on upholstered sofas, and indulge in a bath, complete with an in-built television. Suites can be interconnected with Superior Rooms upon request. All suites are equipped with a king-size bed, sofa, Nespresso coffee machine, LED TV, and media hub featuring movies-on-demand and Marshall speakers.
Food and Drink
The hotel boasts two restaurants and a bar. Breakfast is served at the ground floor Vintry Kitchen, with lunch and dinner available at the top-floor Mercer Terrace. Vintry Kitchen is a relaxed breakfast spot offering favourites such as Full English breakfast or, for something more indulgent, British forage wild mushrooms on toast, wilted baby spinach, St Ewes poached eggs, and Parmesan.
Mercer Terrace, located on the 7th floor, is a splendid, modern British restaurant and bar with a rooftop terrace offering breathtaking views of the City. The Rooftop provides sweeping vistas of London’s skyline from St. Paul’s to The Shard. Guests can also choose to dine al fresco on the chic rooftop terrace. This venue is a hidden gem of indoor and outdoor dining, adorned with charming fairy lights, potted plants, olive trees, and wildflower beds. Dining here is a special experience.
The impressive nibbles, such as sprouting broccoli tempura and the pillow-soft Mercer Bread, set the stage for the rest of the menu, which is divided into ‘Land’ and ‘Sea’. The star of the starters is the Heritage Beetroot Tartare with Salisbury Goat’s curd, accompanied by walnut ketchup, balsamic caviar, and black olive puff dressing. For seafood enthusiasts, the Roasted Coastal Stonebass with potato chorizo terrine, celeriac, vanilla, and white wine sauce is a culinary masterpiece. To finish, it has to be the Sticky toffe pudding with coffee caramel and vanilla ice cream
For cocktails, try the Huggin Hill, an enticing mix of Orange rum, El Dorado, coconut rum, Velvet Falernum liqueur, pineapple juice, and coconut milk.
For late-night indulgence, head to the hotel’s speakeasy bar ‘Do Not Disturb’, affectionately known as “DND”. Situated in the basement of the building with its own entrance discreetly positioned on Garlick Hill, it evokes the charm of bars from years gone by. Here, you can savour a range of specialty barrel-aged wines and house cocktails, alongside a menu of delectable small plates.
